Performance Audit in Bangladesh

A performance audit is an independent examination of a programme, function, operation or management process — typically within a governmental or non-profit entity — to judge whether it is achieving economy, efficiency and effectiveness. Rather than focusing on financial statements alone, it asks whether public resources are being used well and whether interventions are delivering the outcomes intended. FM Consulting International conducts performance audits that measure results against appropriate criteria and pinpoint where improvement is possible.

The three E's

Our performance audits are built around three core criteria. Economy considers whether resources are acquired and used cost-effectively. Efficiency examines operational productivity — how well inputs are converted into outputs. Effectiveness measures whether the entity is actually achieving its stated objectives. Together they reveal both how well a programme is run and whether it is worth running.

Why it matters

We assess effectiveness, efficiency and legal compliance, investigating deviations from expected standards and identifying opportunities to do better. The findings serve a wide range of stakeholders — citizens, lenders, legislatures, administrators, civil servants and the media — who depend on credible performance information to hold organisations to account and make informed decisions about how resources are allocated.
