How to Obtain a Factory Registration Certificate in Bangladesh

A factory registration certificate is the licence required for manufacturing establishments operating in Bangladesh. It is issued at district level by the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments and applies when you construct, establish, expand or renew the licence of a factory.

Application process

An authorised representative of the factory submits the application to the relevant district office of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments. The application covers construction, establishment, expansion or renewal, and is filed together with the required forms, drawings and fee payment.

If an application is refused, the applicant has the right to appeal within 30 days of the refusal.

Fees and renewal

Fees are graduated by the number of workers, ranging from around BDT 500 for 5 to 30 workers up to BDT 18,000 for establishments with 5,001 or more workers. Renewal fees are lower, from roughly BDT 250 to BDT 8,000 depending on the same worker category. The factory licence must be renewed by 31 December each year by paying the applicable renewal fee.
