How to Obtain an Import Registration Certificate (IRC) in Bangladesh

An Import Registration Certificate (IRC) is mandatory for any entity importing raw materials or specified items into Bangladesh. It is issued by the Office of the Chief Controller of Imports & Exports (CCI&E) under the Import Policy Order, and is a precondition for clearing imported goods.

Application process

Obtain the IRC form from the CCI&E office or its website and complete it with the supporting documents. Deposit the applicable registration fee at Bangladesh Bank or Sonali Bank and collect the Treasury Challan copies as proof. Finally, submit the completed form, documents and challan to the CCI&E Dispatch Section.

Processing usually takes around four to five working days for a complete application.

Fees and renewal

Registration fees are banded by import value, ranging from about BDT 5,000 for imports up to BDT 5,00,000 to roughly BDT 60,000 for imports exceeding BDT 5,00,00,000. The IRC must be renewed annually under the same fee structure, for which you will need the IRC passbook and a Treasury Challan deposit.
